Be a part of HIMSS Live Exchange at the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase™
Seeking candidates to showcase LIVE examples of standards-based interoperability!
HIMSS and IHE USA seek applicants for Interoperability Showcase™ HIMSS Live Exchange to be featured for the first time at the HIMSS11 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, February 21-24, 2011. HIMSS Live Exchange will be a demonstration by hospitals, health information service providers, and other healthcare providers that have deployed standards-based interoperable solutions using IHE and/or HHS-recognized standards.
Selectedorganizations will have the opportunity to share their testimony and the impact that standards-based interoperable systems have made on their patients and providers with thousands of visitors this year at HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase.

About HIMSS Live Exchange
Demonstration Workflow: Each HIMSS Live Exchange session will be a 30-minute demonstration that shows a two-to-three step use case that displays systems sending information via standards based technology through a clinical chain of care. There will be an additional 15-20 minutes to explain and demonstrate the system(s) and their value, Q & A, and discussion. Each organization selected for HIMSS Live Exchange will commit to run their presentation three to four times in a four-hour consecutive shift on one or two days of the Conference.
Connection to meaningful use or quality criteria: Showcase visitors are particularly interested in how interoperable technology can help them meet specific requirements such as meaningful use and quality metrics. Therefore, we seek HIMSS Live Exchange candidates that are using standards-based interoperable systems focused on achieving meaningful use and/or other HHS mandates or initiatives. Participants may invite vendors to help execute their demonstration but the vendors cannot be the primary presenters.
Live connection to organization: The preferred candidate is encouraged to arrange for a “live feed” from the presenter’s deployment site into the HIMSS Live Exchange. The ideal demonstration will highlight the final transaction as a clinical outcome that is a direct benefit of the interoperable technology that is shown. In addition to a live feed, we ask that each demonstration also have back-up demonstration content [i.e., PowerPoint slides or a video] in case “live feed” technology fails to operate as planned.
HIMSS Interoperability Showcase Live Exchange Applicant Criteria
Technology: Candidates must be from a clinical site, such as a hospital or ambulatory practice, health information service provider, or other health information organization (in partnership with a clinical site) that has currently implemented standards-based interoperable clinical solutions drawn from the list below:
People: Selected applicants must provide one or more individuals from their organization that will be available for testing, rehearsal, presentation and demonstration prior to and during the HIMSS11 Annual Conference which runs February 21-24, 2011. Vendors may assist but cannot be the primary presenter(s) – the HIMSS Live Exchange intent is to hear directly from user representatives about their experience implementing and using standards-based interoperable technology. The presenter(s) must show enthusiasm for the process, be able to speak to the provider/patient value and focus the presentation on interoperability. HIMSS Live Exchange presentations are not to be vendor product demonstrations.
Time Commitment: Participation requirements are divided into two components – pre-testing and on-site demonstration. Showcase staff will work with each organization to develop the final schedule; overall expectations are listed below. Representatives from the selected organization must be available to participate in the following:
